CASE STUDY
Rebuilding Team Connections
Our client, a high-performing global consultancy in Hong Kong, was facing critical levels of team fragmentation and mental fatigue. The company’s existing virtual mental health benefits and standard one-off happy hours were no longer moving the needle on employee satisfaction. They needed a deep, offline, and sustained intervention to help their team slow down, disconnect, and rebuild psychological safety together.
Before the tools were touched, our team deployed a pre-program wellbeing diagnostic. The indicators revealed that 81% of the participants experienced chronic anxiety regarding workplace mistakes and failure, while only 31% felt a genuine personal connection to their cross-functional team members
We designed a custom 6-session residency shifting the workforce away from cognitive stress-loops into a restorative state of flow. Using the subtractive, physical nature of woodworking, where mistakes require creative adaptation rather than a digital "undo" button, we constructed a physical testing ground to actively practice self-compassion, mistake-acceptance, and slow, hands-on mindfulness.
Over the course of the six sessions, the team worked side-by-side on individual and collaborative builds in our Mui Wo studio. Keeping their hands physically busy with traditional tools bypassed awkward networking dynamics, allowing the consultants to lower their guards naturally. This generated authentic, unforced peer dialogue and peer-to-peer mentoring.
Post-residency evaluations compiled after Session 6 demonstrated immediate, measurable shifts in workplace culture:
-
94% of participants reported feeling deeply mentally restored
-
Anxiety over mistakes dropped from 81% down to 38%
-
Peer-to-peer connection metrics skyrocketed from 31% up to 88%
Before & after results charted using standardised psychometric surveys.

Legacy Project: ESF Peak School
Peak School sought a tangible, screen-free collaborative experience to mark their Year 6 cohort's transition to secondary school. The goal was to align 60 graduating students to co-create a singular, professional-grade visual masterpiece that would permanently anchor their legacy on campus.
Before the students touched a tool, we trained Peak School’s educators. We walked the teaching staff through the basics of wood carving, safe tool handling, and classroom management strategies, ensuring a structurally and psychologically safe environment for the upcoming student sessions.
Conceptualizing the Mark: Students participated in reflective design labs to translate their primary school memories into visual concepts. They learned how to simplify complex ideas into bold, striking symbols suitable for block-carving, focusing entirely on personal expression rather than rigid perfection.
Armed with their designs, the Year 6s stepped up to the workbench. Guided by our technical craft instructors, all 60 students safely mastered traditional hand chisels, learning to read wood grain as they carved their individual symbols directly into raw timber blocks.
Students transitioned their carved timber blocks into active printmaking tools. After learning how to roll specialized inks and manage pressure, the students gathered on the studio floor to stamp their individual blocks onto a massive, heavy-duty blank canvas, watchfully layering their prints.
The final, deeply textured collaborative canvas print was permanently stretched, framed, and hung in a central corridor at Peak School. It stands as a beautiful, physical landmark of their collective primary school journey and a daily reminder of what they can build together.
