About A Collective Space

The only creative studio in Hong Kong owned and operated entirely by ethnic minorities, women & LGBTQIA+ folks

A Collective Space was born from a simple belief: working with our hands is a powerful antidote to modern stress, burnout, and digital fatigue.

As our roots deepened, our studio grew. What began as a focused woodwork space has evolved into a multidisciplinary collective of educators, psychologists, mental health professionals, and multi-disciplinary artisans. Together, our growing team bridges therapeutic care with a rich tapestry of heritage crafts, expanding beyond woodwork into textile arts, upcycling, folk music and restorative design. Expert craftspeople bring technical rigor, while our wellbeing specialists provide the psychological safety needed for true creative exploration.

Nestled in Mui Wo, the ACS studio is a sanctuary where the scent of sawdust and the rhythm of traditional tools foster mental resilience, creative wellbeing, and authentic social connection. From beginner-friendly community events, project-based classes, to tailored corporate resilience labs and school programs, we celebrate the process over the product. At ACS, we embrace mistakes as essential, beautiful milestones on the creative road back to ourselves.

The values behind heritage crafts

Our pillars of work

01

Our programs, whether focused on individual making or collaborative projects, prioritise genuine human connections. We know that making together lowers our defences, allowing for conversations that wouldn't ordinarily take place.

02

Our focus is always on the process, not the product. Making is our preferred way of self care, requiring only the motivation to play, create, and make mistakes. Our "safe to fail" policy ensures that all makers have equal opportunities to continue their maker's journey at A Collective Space.

03

We teach tangible, real life skills that empower others to take control of their environment and lives. Whether it's learning how to use a drill, or make simple repairs, we operate to encourage makers of all abilities & skills to build resilience through making.

Bridging Gaps

We are a multi-disciplinary collective of educators, psychologists, creatives, and technicians expanding the boundaries of tactile wellbeing. By bridging research backed educational and mental health expertise with heritage crafts, our team co-creates programs where physical creation leads of genuine emotional restoration and human connections.

Institutional & Community Partnerships

Our strengths are in our ability to collaborate and build physical displays of wellbeing. We collaborate with NGOs, corporates, universities, and schools to deliver high-impact workshops, creative labs, and cultural preservation initiatives.

Whether you're seeking a human-centered workshop for your workplace, or a meaningful longterm programs, our interdisciplinary teams provides the professional backbone for transformative, crafts-based experiences.
