Spoon Carving Workshop
Unplug, slow down, and carve a functional wooden spoon from raw timber.
Service Description
Experience one of humanity’s oldest heritage crafts in a calm, 2.5-hour spoon carving workshop. Designed as a physical antidote to modern digital fatigue, this session invites you to slow down, listen to the grain of the timber, and shape a raw hardwood block into a beautiful, functional wooden spoon. Guided 1-on-1 by our craft instructors in our Mui Wo studio, you will cover: - Grain Analysis & Wood Mechanics: Learn how to read timber grain patterns to ensure structural strength and smooth carving strokes. - Edge Tool Mastery: Build confidence using traditional sloyd knives and curved hook knives with safe, efficient hand grips. - Hollowing & Shaping: Hollow the spoon bowl and pare down the handle to create an ergonomic, balanced utensil tailored to your hand. - Natural Finishes: Sand your piece to a satin feel and seal it with food-safe organic oils and beeswax. Why Choose This Experience? Spoon carving is a rhythmic, meditative practice where progress is measured stroke by stroke. It encourages patience, focus, and self-compassion, yielding an everyday kitchen utensil you crafted with your own hands.
